HARS Aviation
The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society Inc (HARS) is a not-for-profit organisation and was formed in 1979 by a group of aviation enthusiasts interested in the preservation of Australian aviation history. Here you will get to see up close a complete replica of the Southern Cross, which was flown by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. Additionally, the well-known actor John Travolta will personally deliver his privately owned Boeing 707, painted in Ex QANTAS livery, to HARS for permanent display. We had the opportunity to board a decommissioned Boeing 747. The tour of the aircraft was terrific. We were shown through the entire plane, starting from coach class and moving to business class, and then to the so-called first class. Finally, we made our way to the cockpit, where the pilots operate the aircraft. It's surprising how little room there is when you see it for yourself. The upper deck of the plane was used by the crew as sleeping quarters, and over the years, a fancy lounge bar was installed at the very top of the aircraft. This 747 has even been used in movies and of course, the popular fun-loving M&M’s advertising skits. Our visit to this fantastic museum was definitely worth the time and effort. Even if you’re not an aircraft enthusiast, I can almost guarantee that there will be an aircraft that catches your attention and piques your interest in its history. As you prepare to leave the tour, take some time to explore the small museum and gift shop. If you need a break, be sure to check out the cozy café as well. All of these options are well worth your time.
